The first thing you need to do is choose a news topic that you will report to your readers. Concentrating on one topic is necessary because launching a new news site that reports everything at once is unlikely to compete with the market leaders: the BBC, CNN, Fox News or The New York Times.
News topics should be chosen based on the following considerations:
- The topic should be of interest to a large number of users. For example, news about the life and work of movie celebrities will be read by many millions of people around the world. Whereas news about mycology (the science of mushrooms) will be of interest to a very limited number of people.

- Theme must have a stable and preferably growing audience. For example, news about the World Cup European soccer (soccer) will be of interest to many people, but only shortly before, during and after the championship itself, which takes place every four years.
