Where to stay in las Terrenas? At the Viva Wyndham V Samana Hotel

Samana Hotel

Welcome to las Terrenas , a small fishing village discovered in the 70s by Frenchmen who came to the Dominican Republic to seek exoticism and tranquility. Today las Terrenas has become a lively village, a landmark for expatriates, where boutiques, bakeries, French supermarkets and more or less trendy restaurants are concentrated.

It is here that we put our suitcases for a week, in this ideal place for your holidays. Different hotel structures, sometimes on the waterfront, are available to you: small hotels of about ten charming rooms that allow you to enjoy the local life and the premises without having to rent a vehicle, but also rentals of villas , apartments or bungalows . By choosing these options, you get more privacy while enjoying the beautiful beaches nearby.

But you also have the all inclusive formula, called “All Inclusive” which is located on Coson Beach. And this is the one we are going to present to you. We are not followers of this formula, often used by hungry and thirsty travelers, who sometimes waste the food. In general, we prefer to test all types of restaurants ranging from local boui-boui to star-studded restaurants. But I must confess that I was seduced by the V Samana de las Terrenas hotel in the Samaná peninsula.

A 5 star hotel for adults only!

This beachfront resort is for adults only. At first glance this could be shocking but know that more and more hotels in the world, medium and high-end adopt the “adult only” and do not wish children in their establishment. A choice that I approve and that I respect because it is necessary for everyone. It is also an opportunity to reconnect with friends and meet new fellow travelers.

The V Samaná hotel opened its doors in 2016 on the beautiful preserved beach of Coson. A prime location, which allows to enjoy an ideal location to discover the peninsula. This human-sized resort offers a chic and relaxed ambience with all the necessary amenities to fully enjoy your stay. We are a long way from the clichés of the hotels all in ultra loud, music at the bottom basses, with the animation team that comes to see you every 10 minutes to propose you a game or an aperitif! This place exudes calm and serenity.

The Viva Wyndham V Samana is 8 km from the village of Las Terrenas, approximately 10-15 minutes by taxi and just 20 minutes from El Catey International Airport in Samana. The lobby already invites you to travel and relax with a vegetal wall and this breathtaking view of the infinity pool. (the only one of the resort). The hotel also has a huge garden for chilling in the hammocks or yoga in the shade of the coconut trees …

On the housing side, it has 144 rooms in the same style, rather spacious, I would say about 40m2 and bright. They are divided into two categories: the V Rooms and the Vibe Rooms, which we had, located on the ground floor overlooking the huge garden and Balinese canopies in exotic wood. We were entitled to your mini private pool, rather nice and tested at 1am! All bathrooms have a shower with Blue Harmony by Viva Wyndham products (soap, shower gel, shampoo). The rooms are equipped with individually controlled air-conditioning, TV, free high-speed electronic safe, laptop, mini bar and coffee / tea maker. The king size bed was soft and fluffy. Small flat,

We were there around June 13, 2017 and there were almost people staying at this resort. Count between $ 150 USD and $ 180 USD per night.

4 varied restaurants including 2 located on the beach

Dining options include 4 restaurants, 3 à la carte, a snack bar and a beach bar. We have all tested and it is very appreciated to have these menus in all in. This allowed us to vary the pleasures and the desires. Unlike most all inclusive resorts, you will never need a reservation for dinner.

  • The Market is the only buffet restaurant in the hotel. It is also the place where we took our breakfast every morning under the palapa, a shelter made of thatch that allows to shelter from the sun. Sometimes you see them on beaches and in tropical countries. It is perhaps the one I liked the least because it offers a more classic and international cuisine: pasta, pizzas, salads, sandwiches but also some more local dishes such as frijoles red cooked beans, rice, banana puree plantains, to be tested on the way.
  • The Fusion , my favorite because it offers a refined and very Asian oriented cuisine: spring rolls, sauteed noodles, stuffed pasta, tartar … a delight!
  • The beachfront Mediterraneas , which can accommodate up to 70 guests, offers Mediterranean cuisine with a local inspiration of las Terrenas (italian and seafood pasta, octopus, risotto, carpaccio, tiramisu, pana cotta … ). During the day, the place becomes the snack bar Vivaz
  • The Mar y Fuego , which can accommodate forty guests, specializes in grilled meats and seafood. If you are in the right season, taste the lobster (extra charge). Possibility of dining on the sand as a lover.

The beach bar E ntre Palmas is the beach bar that serves all day a wide selection of juices, smoothies and alcoholic drinks, to be consumed on one of the deckchairs of playa Coson or in the pool! Close to the lobby, you can not miss the Hip Bar , open until about 1am. It is the hotel’s lounge bar and disco. It was in a Latin atmosphere that I slipped on the track!
